Korean Army Stew (Budae Jjigae)

Korean Army Stew | Delicacious

This week has been a week of gastric flu and common flu for the family. My little girl was down with a terrible bout of gastric flu and had been vomiting and having diarrhea since Tuesday. Then on Friday, my dear husband started complaining of sore throat. Not good at all. I was tired from the lack of sleep and did not feel really feel like cooking dinner. Then I recalled the delicious pictures of Korean Army Stew that a friend had posted on Facebook recently. And the whole discussion of Spam that followed those pictures – the stew contains Spam. (Are you a secret fan of Spam?) Dinner was decided – Korean Army Stew it shall be.

Bacon Parmesan and Scallion Scones

bacon parmesan scallion scones | Delicacious

This post is dedicated to all you bacon lovers out there. Yes, this post on BACON, parmesan and scallion scones. Don’t you just hear it calling your name? Wait. A savoury scone? YES. A savoury scone. Surely scones don’t have to be served sweet, with clotted cream and jam? I think not. I would like to think that the addition of bacon to scones (or to anything) makes it perfect. For those who still like their scones sweet, I’m happy to report that I crisped the bacon with some brown sugar. Add some parmesan and scallions and there you have it – the perfect meal all in a scone. Are you convinced yet?

Easy Miso Glazed Salmon

Miso Glazed Salmon | Delicacious

I am a fan of salmon, when it is prepared right. I like salmon best as sashimi; smoked salmon comes close when served with eggs benedict, rosti or in a good caesar salad. I may be changing my preferences soon though. This easy miso glazed salmon is rising fast in my list of favourite salmon dishes. The reasons? It is simple, healthy and really delicious.

Miso is wonderful not just because of its flavour, but because of its health benefits. There is a long list of benefits but I will just name a few. Scientifically, miso has been proven to reduce risks of colon, breast and prostate cancer. It is a source of probiotics, is high in anti-oxidants, lowers LDL (bad cholesterol) and strengthens the immune system. Are you rushing to your nearest Japanese food store to buy a tub of miso yet?

The longer miso is aged, the deeper its flavour and its colour. Commercially, miso is sold as shiromiso (white miso) or akamiso (red miso). You can also buy a blend of it. For this recipe, I used a blend of both white and red miso. Since the flavour of akamiso is stronger than shiromiso, you will want to adjust the amount of miso used according to the type you used.Continue Reading

Tangy Lemon Chicken Pasta

Tangy Lemon Chicken Pasta | Delicacious.com

Ain’t I back to be back blogging again after a week long hiatus thanks to a bout of sickness in the family. Have I mentioned before that I hate the flu bug? If not, I will say it again. I HATE THE FLU BUG. This time round, my poor little girl was down with 6 days of high fever, cough, no appetite and yeah, you get the picture. Unfortunately, I succumbed too. Well, at least both my girl and I could sulk in bed together.

Well, most people know that a good dose of Vitamin C helps to boost immunity. Tangy foods tend to whet the appetite. You know where this is heading? That’s right. Lemons. I love lemons – they are perfect in cupcakes, muffins, salad dressings and even savory dishes. Like this Tangy Lemon Chicken Pasta. It’s quick, fuss-free, delicious and adds a boost of vitamin C to your diet. Sounds good doesn’t it?Continue Reading

Pork and Prawn Gyoza

Pork and Prawn Gyoza

How many gyoza fans do we have here? Me! I’m definitely one. It is one of those items that I frequently order at ramen shops to accompany my ramen. There are typically two ways of cooking gyoza – pan fried then steamed or fully fried. I prefer the pan fried then steamed version as I feel the steaming process keeps the filling juicy. I also like my gyoza made with more filling. Sadly, most store bought ones don’t quite make the cut – most ramen places that I frequent scrimp on the gyoza filling. SO…. I decided to make my own! Packed with more filling (oh so yummy), pan fried, then steamed.Continue Reading

Soy Sauce Chicken

soya sauce chicken

Soy sauce chicken is one of those comforting childhood dishes that I love. I love how it is so simple to prepare and requires no complicated or expensive ingredients. It is tasty, the gravy goes well with rice and it feeds the family. What else to ask for? If you prefer, throw in a couple of hard boiled eggs and it can be a one-dish meal when served with rice.Continue Reading

Steamed Garlic Prawns

steamed garlic prawns 2

I seldom cook on weekdays. By the time I get back from work, it is a little late to start preparing for dinner and so I am grateful that my mom usually takes care of it. On weekends, I try to cook up the odds and ends in the fridge before the stockpile arrives on Tuesday (marketing day). So it happens that while I was going through the freezer, I found 9 of these large prawns.Continue Reading
